The Closet Intensives
One Word
The Bible Study Method
You’ve been told to read your Bible.
But were you ever taught how to study it?
You can underline a verse and still wonder what it means, or how to live what you’ve read.
In this live Intensive, I’ll demonstrate my One Word Bible Study Method. Then you’ll complete a study of your own, with guidance and time for questions.
Leave with a completed study, your digital notebook, and a process you can return to.

The origin
It started with one word.
I knew how to read the Bible. I did not know how to understand it.
Reading had become something I did because I was a Christian. I could finish a chapter and still struggle to explain what I had read.
Then I heard Joyce Meyer teach from Proverbs 4:7: “In all thy getting get understanding.”
That stopped me. I had been reading faithfully, but understanding was what I needed.
I brought that question to God. What I believe the Holy Spirit led me to do was simple: slow down, notice one word, and study it.
I began examining its meaning, returning to the passage, and considering how to practice what I understood. I was seeing things I had previously read right past.
That became the One Word Bible Study Method, which I have taught for years.
Now, I want to walk you through it, and give you room to practice.
Caren Williford, Founder of The Closet
THE SHAPE OF THE INTENSIVE
We will study together.
Three and a half hours, with a break between teaching and practice. Bring your Bible, your notebook, and the questions you usually carry alone.
Leave with a completed study in your hands, and a process you can return to.
Preparation instructions will arrive by email the week before.
Step One
Learn the method
I’ll walk you through the One Word Method, from choosing a translation you understand to studying a word within its passage and working toward application.
The method is yours after Saturday.
Step Two
Worth Through A Passage
You’ll see what catches my attention, how I investigate its meaning, and how I return to the text to check my understanding.
Application follows understanding.
Step Three
Take a break
Halfway.
Stand up, refill something, stretch.
Part one ends here. Part two is where you do the work yourself.
Come back with your notebook.
Step Four
Complete A StudyÂ
Now it is your turn.
With your digital notebook open, you’ll practice the method. You’ll have time to read, write, and ask questions as they arise.
Not observed. Done.
Step Five
Discuss what you discovered.
We’ll consider selected student observations together and identify practical responses grounded in the passage. Sharing aloud is welcome and optional.
Leave with a completed study in your hands, and a process you can return to.
Preparation instructions will arrive by email the week before.
Answered plainly
The questions women ask before they reserve a seat.
Why are you charging for a class about studying the Bible?
I am not charging for access to God. That has never been for sale and I would not know how to price it. I charge because of my time, my experience, and the platforms I run to make a room like this possible. What you are paying for is a prepared, working room with someone in it who will answer you.
Has this class run before?
Not in this form. I have taught the One Word method for years, in rooms around the world, but this is the first time it has been built as a live Intensive with a notebook and a guided study of your own. So there are no student quotes on this page yet. The first ones will come from the women in this room.
Do I need to know anything before I come?
You need a Bible you can read comfortably and something to write with. The pre-work covers the rest, including which translation to bring and how to set up your notebook. No previous word study experience is required.
What if I cannot make it live?
The notebook and the recording are yours either way, so you can work through the study on your own time. The replay sits in your classroom for as long as you have the course. It does not expire.
Will I have to speak in front of everyone?
No. Sharing your work aloud is invited and never required. Most of the working time is quiet and private, in your own notebook.
Is the notebook printed or digital?
Digital, and formatted to print at home if you would rather write on paper. The pages are left blank on purpose so you write the verse in yourself.
Is this the same as The Closet?
No. The Closet is about building the practice of being with God. This is about what you do with the text once you are in there. They belong together, which is why your seat includes The Closet as well, and it is yours for life, not for a term.
What time is it in my timezone?
We begin at 12:00 PM Mountain Time on Saturday, November 14, and run three and a half hours. That is 11:00 AM Pacific, 1:00 PM Central, 2:00 PM Eastern, 7:00 PM in the UK, 8:00 PM in the Netherlands, and 9:00 PM in South Africa. If you cannot be there at that hour, the recording is still yours.
Can I get a refund?
No. This is a digital course and all sales are final. Everything you are paying for reaches you either way: the pre-work, the notebook, and the recording all land in your account whether or not you make it to the live room. Please read this page carefully before you reserve, and if something here is unclear, ask me before you pay rather than after.
Will there be another Intensive?
Yes. The Intensives run through the year and each one teaches one thing all the way through. Come to this one if this is the thing you need now.
Why this matters
What gets to shape your thinking?
A conversation can follow you home. An opinion can settle into your decisions. A fear can become familiar enough to sound like wisdom. Studying Scripture gives you a place to examine what you have been accepting.
I.
You can underline a verse and still wonder what it means for the decision waiting on your desk.
II.
You can finish a chapter and not be able to say what the passage was actually doing.
III.
You can love good teaching and still not know how to open the text for yourself.
This is the work behind quiet authority. Learning what deserves your agreement.
Come with the questions you have.
This Intensive is for women who want to understand Scripture more carefully and develop a study practice they can continue.
You may be beginning. You may have read your Bible for years and still feel unsure how to study a passage. You may value good teaching and want to grow in your own study of Scripture alongside it.
No previous word study experience is required. Sharing your work aloud is optional.
The One Word app
The method, in your hand.
A place to open Scripture, explore a word, examine its meaning, and begin developing your own understanding.
Search a topic that is on your heart, read the passage it takes you to, and let one word rise up. Then stay with it, the way we will on Saturday.
The Intensive teaches you the method. The app is where you keep using it on a Tuesday morning when nobody is teaching and it is just you and the text.
The app is live, and it is yours to use.
Included with your seat

One payment. One Saturday. And a good deal more than one Saturday's worth of what comes after it.

One word carries most of the weight.

We are going to look at it carefully,

You do not have to depend on someone else's relationship with Scripture to begin building your own.
